The element of story telling
Posted by Mark on 2008-02-22 22:32:43 CST
WoW machinima is one of my favorite intertube pass times. I watch a lot of wow videos, not only for entertainment, but to sometimes to learn how to deal with specific classes that might be giving me a hard time in PvP, how to win (or at least do better) at Battlegrounds, or how to make gold.
But sometimes, a WoW video comes along that makes me want to create my own WoW movies, complete with plot, story, voiceover work, special effects, excellent editing and all that stuff and see what I can come up with.
I am sure there is a learning curve to using something like Sony Vegas (commonly used by the wow machinima community to edit/add special effects to their wow vids) and maybe someday I'll get around to learning it. But for now, I'm quite content with watching stuff like this.
Possible Tier 7 Lootz

Check out what could possibly maybe be the new Tier 7 stuff. Pretty cool looking in my opinion but some stuff is better than others. Rogue is a little disapointing, Shaman and Hunter look like monsters (that's a good thing) and Druids look like Druids. All leafy and stuff. I also thought the Warrior get up was rather rogue looking, although that may have been the weapons he was carrying. In any case, enjoy!
Rogue PvP - Sweet juicy crits.

I love coming across a sweet video that makes me want to play a class. I've been contemplating continuing Nixx, my 18 rogue for sometime, and this video may have sealed the deal. Kudos to the author for the nice editing.

Mod Review: Power Auras
Posted by Mark on 2008-02-16 22:40:29 CST
Power Auras is a nifty little mod that allows you to place in game aura effects that trigger on certain events. This makes it easier to know when you're low on health or mana, when you've been slowed, poisoned, stunned and many other events.
It's easy to configure, you have complete control over where the auras appear, what their animations look like, and how long they last.
By no means necessary, but pretty cool to have. I really enjoiy it for items or spells that proc and only last a short time; power auras makes sure you notice the proc.
Arcane Torrent: The Allure of the Mage

There is something to be said about being a glass canon; people fear you yet you're the most fragile class in the game. Or is that really the case? Mages are known for their huge crits, crowd control and over all utility, not to mention the added bonus of free food and drinks.
Sure mages don't sport much in the way of HP, but if played right, they can own pretty much any class. Even soul link warlocks! This is probably true for any of the classes if Blizzard had anything to say about it, but it's especially true for the mage because of their 'glass canon' stereotype.
Author Evertras has posted a video detailing exactly how to play a mage in pvp, as well as gives some great general pvp tips. The video is a little long, and the first 4 minutes are an attempt at comedy, but for me came off as a little annoying, but at 4:25 into the video, his undead mage begins explaining to an angry BE mage how it's possible to own a warlock in pvp. He goes on to other classes from there too.
Check out the video here, I'd have posted it here but I can't find the embed code anywhere. Enjoy!
Honor update for patch 2.4
Posted by Mark on 2008-02-16 21:38:08 CST
One of my most anticipated changes for patch 2.4 is t he ability to use your honor points imediately after earning them. No longer will you need to wait until the next day before they become available to be used!
Having said that, the one nice thing about having to wait to use the points was that it made it a little easier to save them - you couldn't rush out and spend them simply because they were burning a hole in your pocket. The next day would come, you'd find yourself far away from the BG vendors, and voila - instant honor point savings.
So what do you think? Is this a double edged sword, or are you excited to use up those points right away?
Mod Review: Meta Map

Carter writes in with his recommendation for Mod Review:
I enjoy addons. Especially addons that take a basic feature implemented by blizzard and expands them for more bang for your buck.
One of these is Meta Map.
Meta Map is a extremely useful tool that takes blizzards basic map and makes it entirely customizable. For example, you can add notes, create a mob database that has respawn times and location, add coordinates, see a map of all zones and instances (with there own notes such as quest location and boss location), explore zones that are "hidden", and download notes that other people have created. You can also change transparency and size of map to fit your custom UI.
There are tons of things you can do with this mod to make your exploration of Azeroth and Outlands easier and more informative.
Mod Review: Lightheaded
Posted by Mark on 2008-01-22 22:25:26 CST
If you've been listening to Wow Chronicles, you've probably heard me rave about Lightheaded in the past. It is by far, my favorite mod for World of Warcraft.
It allows you to read wowhead.com comments directly associated to the quest you click on in your quest log. You no longer have to alt-tab out to your desktop to open a browser to look it up because all the comments and juicy information people have already left on that quest are now basically in your quest log. But it gets even better than that. More after the jump.
